Sovereign Hill is just a few minutes walk from BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields and is a world renowned and much loved Ballarat attraction. This outdoor museum presents the story of Australia’s fabulous gold rush history which is brought to life by costumed characters and over 40 horses.

There are sensational markets every weekend in Ballarat where you can snap up everything from vintage clothes, memorabilia, antiques, collectables, trash and treasure to local produce. BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields is the ideal place to base yourself at when going market shopping!
Ballarat Botanical Gardens
The nearby Ballarat Botanical Gardens are a great place to visit and has 40 hectares divided into three distinct zones which preserves the 'gardenesque' style of this Victorian pleasure garden. Volunteers offer guided tours of this great place and it's one of Australia's most significant cool climate gardens.
Lake Wendouree
Nearby Lake Wendouree is located in the centre of Ballarat. Facilities include the six-kilometre Steve Moneghetti running and walking track, cycling trails, public toilets, playgrounds and excellent picnic and BBQ areas. The lake also offers opportunities for fishing, sailing and rowing.
The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial
The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial is a place for a quiet reflection to mourn those 8,600 prisoners, to remember loved ones that died in captivity, and those who remain buried on foreign shores. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them. Lest we forget.
Arch of Victory - Avenue of Honour
This is the longest and one of the earliest known memorial tree plantings. Its significant cultural landscape of national importance has been classified by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria), the Australian Heritage Commission and by Heritage Australia.
Ballarat Gold Museum
Sovereign Hill’s story of Ballarat is told in detail at the Ballarat Gold Museum. This museum offers an award-winning gift shop specialising in the sales of fine giftware, Australian made gold jewellery and even gold nuggets! Discover the beauty of power and gold here.
Tramway Museum
Visit the Ballarat Tramway Museum and ride an authentic Ballarat tram which ran Ballarat’s public transport until 1971 - some are over 100 years old! You can also travel 1.3km on the original tracks through the Botanical Gardens of the west side of Lake Wendouree.
Museum of Australian Democracy
Located on the historic site of the 1854 Eureka Stockade is the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (M.A.D.E). This is where stories are told by ordinary men and women, past and present, who have fought for the democratic freedoms we enjoy today.
Ballarat Ghost Tours
Ballarat Ghost Tours invites you to spend an evening exploring the dark and ghostly side of Australia’s premier gold rush city. Explore the underground buildings, back alleyways and the old Ballarat Gaol founded in the early 1800s.
Ballarat Bird World
At the nearby Ballarat Bird World, it’s a rare chance for Australian and overseas visitors to see the colours of Australian bird life. This place includes a man-made waterfall extending over 50 metres and over 1km of raised walkways.
Observatory and Museum
Visit the nearby Ballarat Municipal Observatory Museum and learn about the Cosmos in the 3D Astrotour theatre as well as view plants and stars with modern and historical telescopes. Also on offer are 3D movies, star parties, lectures, night sky viewing and plenty more.
Ballarat Golf Club
The nearby Ballarat Golf Club has a long and proud history spanning back to 1895 as Australia's oldest continually played course, providing experience for golfers of all levels. The club house is home to awards ranging from 2011-2013.
Winter Wonderlights
